Furo or Ofuro is the Japanese word meaning Bath (the latter being the polite word)
The wood used to build these Furos is called Kisohinoki and is a Natural Japanese cedar, the tree is generally between 250 and 300 years old. Since before the Edo period (600-800AD) Kinohinoki has been used in building Japanese Temples, many of these can still be seen today.

Kisohinoki (pron; ke-so-he-no-ki) gives off an amazing aroma which can only be appreciated by soaking in the bath water. The wood also carries many medicinal properties which are released into the water when used as an furo, promoting blood circulation is just one of them. Kinohinoki wood has a high bacterial ingredient which ensures resilience to corrosion and termites.
To build the bath it takes two weeks and delivery between six and eight weeks.
All the baths come with lids made of the same wood and in 6 segments.
The traditional Japanese bath will not have an overflow and these furo`s come with a Western plug fitting. The furo`s can be built without a plug hole giving you the advantage to have the hole where you wish.
